Kaiyukan
大阪市, 大阪府
Address: 1-1-10 Kaigandori, Minato-ku, Osaka, Osaka, Japan
Situated in Tempozan, Osaka, Kaiyukan has upheld its reputation as one of Japan's finest aquariums since opening in 1990. Drawing more than 2 million visitors every year for over three decades, it remains a landmark destination for travelers from around the world. The centerpiece is the vast 'Pacific Ocean' tank — 9 meters tall and holding 5,400 tons of water — soaring through eight floors of the building. Watching whale sharks glide effortlessly through this cavernous atrium is truly breathtaking. Manta rays soaring overhead and drifting cow-nosed rays add to the otherworldly atmosphere. The aquarium's signature concept arranges 14 tanks in a descending spiral, each representing a distinct Pacific Rim ecosystem — from the Arctic and Antarctic to the Aleutian Islands and the open Pacific. Beginning at the top floor and spiraling down, visitors journey through the world's oceans in sequence. Note that Kaiyukan uses a dynamic pricing system where admission prices vary by date, so check the official website calendar before your visit.
