Located in Chitose, Hokkaido, inside Salmon Park Chitose along the Chitose River, Chitose Aquarium is an easy sightseeing stop near New Chitose Airport, built around Hokkaido's river life. The aquarium includes one of Japan's largest freshwater tanks and displays salmon relatives, Hokkaido freshwater fish, and species from rivers and lakes around the world. Its defining feature is the Water Observation Zone, the first facility in Japan where visitors can look directly into a real river environment, with autumn salmon migration as the signature seasonal highlight.
