Kamo Aquarium
Tsuruoka, Yamagata
Address: 657-1 Okubo, Imaizumi, Tsuruoka, Yamagata, Japan
Kamo Aquarium on the Japan Sea coast of Tsuruoka City, Yamagata, is widely known as Japan's signature jellyfish aquarium. Its jellyfish zone 'Kuranetarium' usually presents around 80 species, and the 5-meter-diameter Jellyfish Dream Theater with roughly 10,000 moon jellyfish has become the defining image of the facility. The aquarium also includes a dedicated jellyfish cultivation center and interpretation programs, so the visit goes beyond visual beauty into the life cycle and care of the animals. Jellyfish-themed food and souvenir offerings complete a visit that feels highly specific to this one aquarium.
