Northern Daichi Aquarium (Mountain Aquarium)
北見市, 北海道
Address: 1-4 Matsuyama, Rubeshibe-cho, Kitami, Hokkaido, Japan
Located in Kitami, Hokkaido, beside the Onneyu Onsen roadside station, Northern Daichi Aquarium is a worthwhile detour in eastern Hokkaido for travelers who enjoy unusual aquariums. It is famous for bold exhibit ideas rather than sheer size, including Japan's first Waterfall Basin Tank, where visitors look up at falling water and fish from below, and the world's first Four Seasons Tank, which actually freezes over in winter. With one-meter-class itou, Hokkaido river species, and tropical freshwater fish raised using hot spring water, it delivers an unusually dense and memorable visit.
